Is there really such a thing as free criminal background checks ?
The answer to that question is both yes and no. There are websites that claim to offer free criminal background checks but at some point you will have to pay a fee to access the full reports. Usually when you do a search in the sol called free criminal background check directories or websites they will tell you something like “We found your person, now pay us a fee to see what we found!”. The initial background search is free but you have to pay to see the results of your search.
That really sucks.
First they give you the impression of being a free offer for free criminal background checks and then they tell you you have to pay. Doh. I don’t like that at all.
Very few people actaully know that they can access the same criminal background check databases that private investigators use. Heck, even the FBI use some of these databases. You can also do the searches for free in each individual department in each different state but that TAKES A LOT OF TIME. Most likely you will end up more frustrated and more confused than when you first started searching!
The Solution to free criminal background checks :
In contrast to those so-called free criminal background checks search engines and directories, a small fee is required up front to access the professional registeries. There are, however, no pay per search fee and only a one time fee or an annual membership fee is required. The annual fee is usually around $30-40.
After that initial payment you are free to do as many cirminal background checks you want to forever or at least for a whole year! This is without doubt a much better way to search for criminal background than going through the hassle of the free cirminal background checks directories.

For the first time third parties and service providers have now been granted full access to the Arkansas State Police Online Criminal Background Checks System. But only with the consent of the person who is the subject of the online criminal history report. So in other words, you can not access the reports in Arkansas without the knowledge and approval of the partie being researched. Duh. What a lame law… It is not meant for snooking around neighbours rather than being a source of due dilligence for employeers and land lords for instance. This allows Free Criminal Background Checks but not the way we are used to and certainly not the way we like it.
